Coffee gets a bad rap in lots of health circles. There are actually lots of studies that show that it is healthy for you, as long as you don’t overdo it. Coffee, specifically the caffeine, has positive effects on cognition. There are also lots of other health benefits such as lower incidents of gallbladder disease and kidney disease. However, this doesn’t mean you should load up a coffee with tons of cream and sugar and drink it all day long. There is too much of a good thing when it comes to caffeine.
Instead of pounding back a cup of coffee during the afternoon when you’re feeling tired and down, try a awesome green juice. One that is filled with phytonutrients and natural energy. The green juice will have sugars, but not too many, so you won’t crash like you would when you drink an energy drink. A vitamin rich, enzyme rich, fresh green juice is the best thing to get you through the day.
So, on to the recipe.
- 1 Half An Organic Lemon – Including The Skin
- 3 Stalks OF Celery
- 1 Small Granny Smith Apple
- 1 Handfull Kale or Spinach
- 1 Small Piece Of Ginger –Peeled
You can make this juice the night before you go to work. It’s best to make juice fresh, but unless you work at home that’s not possible. These juices are definitely better than the bottled “fresh” juices you will find in the stores. They are even better than a lot of the juices that you get at a lot of juice bars. Those juices are going to be filled with cucumbers because of the high water content. Cukes are great, but you want a bit more nutrients in your drink.
Notes: Make sure to get an organic lemon. These are the best choice because you want to juice the skin. The skin of the lemon has all of the best flavors because of the oil. On the other hand you need to skin the ginger. This can be done with the back of a spoon. Ginger skin can be scrapped off.
Kale or Spinach—The choice is completely up to you. Whichever you have on hand will work best. Some people prefer kale, others like the taste of spinach better. I don’t personally see much of a difference.
Ginger, Apple and Lemon—These ingredients provide the awesome flavor that turns a powerful, energy boosting green juice into a flavorful, almost ginger-lemonade tasting drink.
Storage Options
You can either use a BPA free plastic container or a glass bottle.I have a quick write up on fresh juice storage here. Either way, it’s best to keep it in your companies fridge. If your company doesn’t have a fridge, then I would suggest to use a thermos. Store the juice cold over night in your fridge to keep it nice and cold, and then right before you leave for work prime the thermos with ice cold water and then pour in your juice. This should keep it chilled for later in the day. Some people don’t have an issue with warm juice, and it’s not a factor on the nutrients, but I do prefer a cool juice over a warm one. When I am juicing fresh juice it’s normally a bit cool because I keep the greens and celery in the fridge.
