If you’re someone who loves to drink green juice, you might be curious as to how often you can drink it. Is it something that you should have several times a day, or should you limit your intake to a few times a week?
Well, those are good questions and it’s important that you spend time researching the answers. There are good reasons to either increase your juice intake or reduce it, depending upon your personal situation.
Everyone is different, and in order to really answer the question on how often you should drink green juice you need to analyze your own diet and lifestyle.
For instance, if you’re someone who is on a diet and looking to lose a lot of bodyfat, then drinking a juice everyday in place of junk food or soda is fine.
If, however, you’re someone who is drinking a dark green juice several times a day and you’re also eating tons of salad and green smoothies, then you should really dial it back. That much greens especially from spinach and kale can add to much iron and oxalic acid to your diet.
Can You Drink Green Juice Every day?
Of course you can. The two main issues with drinking green juice everyday are the extra calories and the potential for adding excess oxalic acid to your diet. This extra acid in some people causes joint pain.
But if you’re not eating big green salads or eating kale or spinach with your meals as a main ingredient, then a green juice is fine everyday.
Also, if your green juice contains things like cucumber, celery, or other greens besides kale and spinach then you don’t have to worry about it.
The major problem comes from people who don’t think green juices have calories. They do. So, if you’re trying to lose weight and you drink a green juice with apples and carrots several times a day then you’re going to go over your daily calorie requirements.
If you are only having a single juice once a day, then that’s perfectly fine.
Some people advocate on doing multiple juices a day. If you are going to do that, I would advise only doing it for a few days and to perhaps incorporate a mild fast alongside it. That way your limiting the amount of work your body has to go through.
How Much is Too Much?
So, there is a thing as too much juice. People who drink a lot of carrot juice, for example, have been known to have an orange tint to their skin. This is because of the carotenoids in carrots.
While it’s good to drink carrot juice, you shouldn’t routinely drink 8 glasses a day. Otherwise you’ll end up looking like a carrot!
The same moderation should apply when drinking green juices. You should not drink more than three juices a day, and even then, you shouldn’t drink that much juice for a long period of time.
I would advise that you only drink multiple green juices a day for a week or so while doing a juice fast or while dieting.
And even then, I would limit the amount of kale and spinach in your juices.
While some people think that these juices are super healthy and really the most amazing thing you can drink, they’re not. They are healthy, but they are not the be all and end all of green juice.
A green juice made with cucumbers, lemons (I know, not really green), celery, apples (you can use green apples) is certainly a better option if you’re making more than one green juice a day.
I would advise that you stick to making and drinking one green juice a day.
If you do that, then you can add your leafy greens like kale and spinach and then lemons and apples to make it taste better.
Occasionally if you want to give your digestion a rest, you could skip lunch and have a second juice in place of lunch.
Benefits To Drinking Green Juice Regularly?
Wow. There are so many benefits to drinking green juice regularly. It ranges from helping to lower blood pressure (especially if you are drinking a green juice with celery) to helping you lose weight.
The fact of the matter is that green juice is vastly superior to any store brought juice that you might find in the supermarket.
Fresh green juice, when you drink it daily, has an incredibly ability to improve your mood as well as your physical look and well being.
The big change comes from eliminating sugar from your diet and including healthy nutrients from the fruit and vegetables.
Once you’ve switched your intake from fruit juices that are processed and sold in the supermarket to something more healthy like a homemade green juice—with fresh fruits and vegetables, you’ll notice that your body and mind will improve.
Those sound like big statements, but they are really quite true. Diet is the key to everything and if you’re someone who isn’t used to eating and drinking healthy, then it’s not surprising that you don’t feel good.
For that reason what I suggest is that you switch your diet and remove some of the sodas and store brought juices and swap in some healthy green drinks instead.
This will allow you to see the maximum benefit from your diet change.
Green Juice vs Fruit Juice: Don’t Trip Up
One thing that I really would suggest you pay attention to is the difference between fruit juice and green juice.
Fruit juice, even if it’s homemade and fresh, will have more calories than a green juice. So, a straight glass of pineapple juice, while tasty, does have a lot of calories in in when compared to a green juice.
It’s important that you know that when deciding upon a daily juice to drink.
Even if you’re someone who isn’t keen on juicing greens, I would say give it a shot. You’d be surprised how tasty a green juice can be if you add some fruit to it. And the fruit that you add doesn’t have to be something that adds a lot of calories.
You could add something light such as a half an apple or a lemon. Both of these will cover the flavor of spinach or kale.
If you’re just getting started with juicing, then I suggest that you read my article on how to use a juicer to get started. It has some helpful tips that you can use as well as some reccomendations.
