Once you’ve decided to buy a juicer and you get one home and start using it, it’s important to know how often you need to clean your juicer.
Cleaning your juicer is part of the process of making juice. While making juice at home will save you a lot of money, it will require that you spend some time cleaning the juicer.
The reason that you need to clean your juicer is that it’s part of the daily maintenance of owning and using a juicer.
There’s nothing special about a juicer that allows you to never clean it.
Obviously, a juicer needs to be cleaned, but how often? Let’s review.
Do You Need to Clean Your Juicer After Every Use?
Yes, I would definitely suggest that you clean your juicer after every use. While some people don’t clean their juicer after every use, the optimal way to use your juicer is to make sure you clean it after you use it.
The reason why I suggest that you clean your juicer after every use is that you don’t want the juicer to dry with the “gunk” on it. In fact, in a previous article where I covered how to clean the gunk off of your juicer I suggested that the best approach would be to clean your juicer as soon as you’re finished using it.
The longer you let a juicer sit without having it soak in water or putting it in the dishwasher, then you’re going to be in for a headache.
You don’t want the juicer to dry because then it will be more difficult to clean. The longer you let the juicer sit without cleaning it, the more difficult it will be once you do end up cleaning it.
In order to avoid the problems associated with cleaning a sticky, dried and ugly juicer you should clean it soon after every use.
Here’s the thing, it’s not enough to clean it after every use, you should use it soon after every use. The longer you let the juicer sit, the harder it will be to clean it. So, I advise that the best approach.
It’s easy enough. Most juicers are dishwasher safe. And even if you don’t want to clean them in the dishwasher, you can simply wash the juicers removable parts under running water.
Should You Clean a Juicer with Baking Soda?
You can use baking soda if you would like to, but it’s not necessary. Some people prefer to use vinegar and baking soda instead of soap, but will do.
In fact, running clean water from your faucet right over the juicer is often enough to clean the juicer.
The reason that juicers are so easy to clean is that you are juicing fruits and vegetables. There’s no fat in these items and fat and grease is what makes things hard to clean.
Washing off celery pulp or some orange peel off of an auger juicer is easy because it won’t stick to the juicer.
Some people like to mix baking soda with water and use this as a mild abrasive when cleaning the juicer. It can work fine, as long as you make sure to clean off the baking soda once you’re done washing it. You don’t want to end up with baking soda reside on your juicer because that will leave a taste.
Do You Need Soap To Clean Your Juicer?
So, when you are cleaning your juicer, is it essential that you use soap to clean it? As a rule, I would say yes.
While you can scrub a juicer clean in the sink just using running water, it’s not a good idea to get into that habit.
If you want your juicer to stay bright and shiny, then using soap or baking soda on the juicers washable parts (the screen, auger, cone) is important.
I’d even suggest that you get into the habit of washing down the body of the juicer using a damp sponge or paper towel. This is important to do because you don’t want the outside of the juicer to get dirty and gritty or stained.
Juicers are not hard to clean, especially if you buy an auger juicer. In fact, the main thing I would suggest is to buy an easy to clean juicer maybe even a self-cleaning model. And then make sure you clean it after every use.
