Easiest Kale Smoothie Recipe Ever

Of all the leafy greens, kale is probably the best. It’s got a low oxalic acid content as well as lots of beneficial antioxidants and vitamins. If you’re looking to add a kale smoothie to your diet, in addition to a green kale juice, then this recipe is perfect. It’s simple, easy to make, and tastes great. You won’t have to worry about drinking a thick, sludgy shake that is gross.

Choose The Right Kale For Your Smoothie

The first step involves choosing the right kale. When you are juicing leafy greens you have the luxury of choosing any kale you want. You can juice red leafy, dino kale aka lacinato, curly or anything else. However, for a smoothie, you need to choose a precise type of kale—microgreens kale. You want young kale or microgreens, because it has a less fibrous and tough texture. This makes it easy to juice. It will break down much easier than the tough curley kales, red kales, or lacinato kale.

Next, you need to add flavor, but flavor that counts. You don’t want to just add something that tastes good, you want to add healthy fiber because it is a smoothie. However, you do need some liquid. So, you need a one-two punch. Fiber and liquid.

For the perfect, easiest kale smoothie I suggest you use these three ingredients. They add water (in the form of coconut water and lemon juice) and healthy, soft fiber (in the form of organic berries).

Coconut Water

Rather than use milk or soymilk in your smoothie, use coconut water. This adds the same liquid, but is also adds healthy minerals such as magnesium and potassium. Also, coconut water will lighten up the whole smoothie. If you’re juicing kale, you will need something light like coconut water. In fact, its actually better then milk at thinning out a smoothie. If you’re concerned about making the smoothie creamy, wait until the end for a special tip.

Lemon Juice

You won’t be adding the complete lemon because it won’t breakdown completely. What you need to do is juice the lemon before hand. You can use a hand juicer, or if you don’t have a hand juicer, just roll the lemon on a cutting board, slice it in half and then squeeze the juice out. This lemon flavor is important in masking the kale flavor. It will also complement the berry flavor.
Organic Berry Mix

The final ingredient is an organic berry mix. You can use frozen organic berries that are sold at the supermarket. Stores such as Costco sell big bags of organic berries that are perfect for making smoothies. Most berry mixes will contain blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. I like those that also contain blackberries and even cranberries. Blackberries and Raspberries provide an amazing nutrient called Anthocyanin. Besides blackberries and raspberries, the only foods that have high levels of this powerful anti-cancer agent are eggplant and concord grapes.

There are two ways to add the frozen berries. If you add them to the mix while they are still hard and frozen right out of the freezer, then it’s like adding ice. However, this will be loud and will also make the smoothie really cold. It could give you an ice cream headache type feeling.

The second method is to thaw them out and then add them, which is what I prefer.

Make The Smoothie Creamy And Add Healthy Probiotics

This final tip is for people who want a creamy smoothie. Rather than ice cream or milk, add a probiotic rich yogurt. This is a great way of adding sweetness and giving the smoothie a creamy feel. Most yogurts are made with sugar of some type, so this will also eliminate the need to add a sweetener such as honey or maple syrup.
