Carrot and Beetroot Juicer Machine

I’m a big fan of juicing carrots and beetroot. So I thought it important to spend some time discussing the different carrot and beetroot juicer machine options.

If you’ve read some of my other articles on carrot juicing or beetroot juicing, then you’ll know that both are super healthy.

And they taste pretty nice as well (a beetroot and lemon juice is a perfect pre-workout juice in my opinion).

However, much like leafy greens, it’s important that you don’t use the wrong juice.

Some juicer machines simply are not suitable for juicing carrot and beets.

Let’s delve in and take a more detailed look.

If I Could Only Recommend One Juicer Machine For Carrot and Beetroot?

Before we jump into the more detailed individual reviews, I want to give my recommendation for the best, single juicer machine for carrots and beets.

carrot and juicer

My go to, if I could recommend only one juicer machine, would be the Omega Compact (shown above).

Why I Consider This The Best Carrot and Beetroot Juicer

It’s a Slow Press

Beetroot and carrots are hard vegetables that require a slow press juicer.

The Omega Compact is a powerful and slow juicer. It’s capable of extracting maximum amounts of juice from carrots and beets.

You also want to make sure you have a cold press style juicer. Anything else, and you are damaging the juice quality. Heat destroys nutrients, which is why I’m such a strong proponent of cold press juicers.

You can’t really juice beetroot or carrots in a fast juicer…too much liquid gets through with the pulp.

Slow press juicers (this one turns at 80 Revolutions per Minute, compare that to fast juicers which spin at hundreds per minute) squeeze and press the juice out of the beetroot and carrots.

It’s Not Expensive

It’s also not too expensive. You won’t feel like you’re spending too much money on it.  That’s important because if you spend a lot of money on a juicer, you might get upset if you don’t use it every day. But this is a nice price point which will not hurt your wallet.

It’s Powerful and Strong

Also, it’s powerful enough to juice the carrots and beets. Some juicers are simply weak and won’t be able to juice them properly.

It’s A Masticating Juicer

And the Omega Compact is a masticating juicer. These juicers are superior to centrifugal juicers because they simply extract more juice.

It’s Quiet

Lastly, it’s quiet. It won’t wake up the house like the faster louder models. The motor is quiet because it’s slow and doesn’t produce the loud sounds of the fast centrifugal jucier.

Omega Compact- My #1 Carrot and Beet Juicer

Pros
  • Affordable
  • Quiet
  • Can Juice Leafy Greens and Hard Vegetables
  • Durable
  • Easy To Clean
  • Simple to Use
  • Great Company
Cons
  • Not super cheap

Carrot and Beetroot 101

Before we jump right into the juicing reviews and which type of juicer you need to buy, let’s take a look at carrot and beetroot in general.

Carrots and beets are both root vegetables. Some other root vegetables include things like onions, radish, and turnips.

However, carrots and beetroot tend to be the more popular vegetables to juice.

Why? Because they have a sweet and palatable flavor. Also, they are very nutritious.

Carrots and beetroot have a lot of B6, beta-carotene, and even lutein and zeaxanthin.

The other cool thing about beets and carrots, and the reason that they are popular among people who juice, is that they are sweet.

Potatoes and radish and other root vegetables are simply not that sweet enough or pleasant tasting enough.

That’s why you do not see potato juice or radish juice.

Beets and Carrots, on the other hand, are sweet due to the natural juice.  They are even used in making desserts (carrot cake, being a personal favorite).

I like to juice both carrot and beetroot because they are sweet, but also because they provide so much valuable nutrients.

Carrots and beets are both hard vegetables, and they are not the easiest to eat in salads.

So, if you’re someone like me and you prefer to eat a light spring salad and you don’t care for a heavy beetroot and carrot salad, but you’d like to get the health benefits from a beetroot and carrot mixture, then a juicer machine is the ticket.

And best of all, you do not have to cook the carrot or the beetroot. You can juice both carrots and beetroots raw.

You might not know that they can be juiced raw because they are hard vegetables. But even hard vegetables can be juiced.

It’s always preferable to juice raw vegetables. You should as a rule never juice cooked vegetables. It defeats the purpose of juicing them. And as a rule, I prefer raw beetroot juice to something called beetroot powder.

Before we move onto the next section, I want to cover some of the heath benefits of carrots and beetroot.

Carrot Nutrition

  • Beta-Carotene *gives carrots the orange color
  • Lutein
  • Vitamin K
  • Potassium

Beetroot Nutrition

  • Betaine
  • Natural Nitrates (keeps blood pressure under control)
  • betalains (fight inflammation)
  • High in Anti-oxidants

Are Carrot and Beetroot Considered Hard Vegetables to Juice?

Yes. Both carrots and beetroot are considered hard vegetables. That means that they require a powerful juicer machine.

Fruits are relatively simple to juice. You can even juice citrus fruits in a hand press.

However, certain vegetables are going to require stronger juicers.

For instance, if you are going to juice leafy greens, then you’re going to want a juicer that can handle leafy greens.

As a rule, hard vegetables like carrots and beetroot will also require a special juicer.

Hard vegetables are more dense. They are not soft like tomatoes, cucumbers, or other soft vegetables.

That’s why you’ll often see people talk about leafy greens in tandem with hard vegetables. They are both more tricky to juice than soft vegetables or fruit.

Root vegetables tend to be hard. That’s in part due to the necessity of protecting them.

Unlike vegetables that grow on bushes, trees, vines, or otherwise above ground, root vegetables are going to need to be hard. Carrot and beetroot simply wouldn’t last if they were soft.

And there’s nothing wrong with “hard” vegetables. Just like there is nothing wrong with “soft” vegetables.

But it’s important to understand that hard vegetables do require special juicers. Your basic store juicer that you might pickup for 4o bucks really won’t cut it.

Hard vegetables don’t juice well in cheap juicers. There are two problems with using a cheap store juicer to juice hard vegetables such as beetroot and carrots. Juice quality and motor use.

Carrot and beetroot simply won’t get completely juiced in a regular juicer. The pulp will be separated and there will be a lot of moisture left inside.

So, in order to get all of the juice from the carrot and beetroot, you need to use a slow press juicer. Slow is better than fast when it comes to juicing hard vegetables and leafy greens.

As a final note, do not cook or even blanch in hot water. You can’t make hard vegetables soft without depleting some of their nutrients. And it would ruin the flavor.

Health Benefits of Juicing Carrot and Beetroot: Alone or Together

The health benefits that you get from juicing carrots or beetroot do not depend upon juicing them alone or together. It’s not an either or both situation.

You can juice them together, or separately.

I will often times mix beetroot and carrots, but if I only have one or the other hanging around, I don’t worry too much.

Some things you don’t want to juice straight (such as spinach) but that’s not the case with beetroot and carrot.

The one thing to remember is that beetroot and carrot do have a similar flavor, and in particular they both have sweetness (due to the sugar content).

Can You Mix Fruits When Mixing Carrot and Beetroot?

You certainly can and I actually recommend it.

Beetroot and carrot are nice tasting juices, but they are high in sugar and they also have a rich and earthy flavor.

What I would suggest is to mix in some fresh tasting fruits such as lemons, or some mild tasting and low sugar vegetables such as kale.

Ideally, when you make a carrot and beetroot juice, you’re going to layer the flavors.

My personal favorite is to take something bright and sour (an organic lemon, for instance) and then use that to cut the sweetness of the lemon.

I will get an organic lemon and properly wash it.  Then, I juice the entire lemon, skin and all. The lemon skin has essential oil which is not only super healthy for you, but it creates a really crisp tasting juice.

What you can also do is sneak in some kale. While it might not look like a regular green juice, it will have the health benefits that you find in classic green juices.

The other benefit to adding in kale is that it lowers the sweetness factor of the beetroot and carrot juice. Remember, both beetroot and carrots are very sweet and kale is not. So, the kale or the other leafy green will smooth out the taste of the juice.

So, lemon is my favorite fruit to juice with beetroot and carrot. Other fruits can be juiced, but you need to remember that beetroot and carrots are sweet, so if you add other fruits that are sweet, you will end up with a sweet juice.

Things like apples, cherries, and other fruits that I like in leafy green juices, but I would not make a beetroot and carrot juice with too many sweet fruits.

The Reviews: Top Tier Carrot and Beetroot Juicer Machine Choices

The Omega Vertical Cold Press Masticating Juicer

The top tier Omega juicer is this vertical model.

Overall, Omega juicers are one of the best, if not the best, made juicers in the world. And this is their top of the line model.

The Omega Vertical is a going to take up less space than horizontal models. That’s not something that effects the quality of the juice, but it is important for freeing up space on your kitchen counter.

If you buy a small compact juicer, often times that are simply not strong enough to juice leafy greens or hard vegetables such as carrots and beetroot.

This model of Omega is both quiet, strong, has a slim profile for a top of the line juicer, and can handle all types of juicing.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Very Long Warranty
  • Slow Cold Press Juicer
  • No Drip Design
  • 43 RPM (super slow press)
  • Nice Design
  • Can Make Nut Butters
  • Easy to Juice Carrot and Beetroot
Cons
  • Pricey

Kuvings Elite Slow Press Juicer

This juicer is similar to the Omega vertical in design and features. And Kuvings is a fantastic company. I’d put it in the three big firms (Omega, Kuvings, and Hurom).

The Kuvings slow press differs from the Omega juicer  shown above in two key ways. First, the Omega is the “slower” of the two. The Kuving turns at 60RMP whereas the Omega turns slower at 43RPM.

The second of the two key differences is that the Kuvings has a wider mouth. This means that you do not have to slice and cut the beetroot and carrots as small when you use the Kuving.

It’s basically a decision as to what is more important, ease of use or the slower/colder press.

I prefer to spend more time cutting up fruits and vegetables, but I appreciate that not everyone is going to want to do as much prep.

For people who want a top tier juicer that cuts down on some of the prep time, then the Kuvings is a great choice.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Excellent Design
  • Easy To Use
  • Easy To Clean
  • Slow Crush Design
  • Quiet
  • Wide Mouth
Cons
  • Pricey

The Hurom Elite Slow Juicer

In line with my other top tier picks, this is a vertical slow press juicer.

As a rule I only like to use masticating slow press juicers for any type of non-citrus juicing.

If you’re squeezing orange juicer or lemons, then you can and should use a citrus juicer. But for all other juicing needs, including leafy greens and hard vegetables such as carrots and beetroot, there is no other design that comes close.

The brand (Hurom) is well known and one best brands on the market. I rank it alongside Omega and Kuvings in the top three of juicer makers.

It’s a vertical juicer, which most of the top tier juicers are. They are going to take up less space, which for many people is a concern.

As you saw from my go to pick, I like the classic Omega–but that does take up more room, so if you’re willing to spend a bit more, you can get a vertical design from Omega, Kuvings, and Hurom.

The design on this juicer is innovative in a few aspects. Namely the “winged” auger.

As you know, masticating juicers work by using an auger. This is like a large screw. They press and squeeze the juice out.

The Hurom Elite has an innovative design in that their auger has a larger surface and a grove that helps squeeze more juice and also allows more of the liquid to flow efficiently into the cup.

The Greenstar juicer has a similar attempt at improving the auger design (I’ll discuss that below).

Also, the Hurom Elite has a BPA free design. So you don’t have to worry about juicing acidic fruits and getting chemicals leaching into your juices.  Hurom uses Tritan, which is a healthy alternative to BPA and other leaching plastics.

I would caution that some of the reviews on this which are negative are from people who are obviously new to juicing. They highlight the pulp is wet from juicing things like berries.

As anyone who is a long time juicer will know, juicing berries isn’t really something you should be doing. That’s because berries, like bananas and avocados, are not ideal for juicing due to their texture.

Berries are soft and very mushy and are better either eaten, blender, or put though a juicer with the puree attachment to turn them into a puree.

However, for hard vegetables and leafy greens, the Hurom is a great pick.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Self Cleaning
  • Slow Press
  • Comes with Drying Rack
  • Nice Design
  • Easy to Use
  • Juice Cap
Cons
  • Has several parts

Greenstar Twin Gear Masticating Juicer

This juicer is definitely a top tier juicer. I normally get a lot of praise from people who end up using this one.

It’s probably the closest thing you can get to a super heavy duty commercial grade juicer that isn’t thousands and thousands of dollars.

If you are a serious juicer and plan on making juice everyday, then there is no better juicer.

But, it is more expensive than the other top tier juicers and will take up more room.  But if that’s not an issue, then I highly advise that you invest in this juicer.

Juicing devotees who make several juices a day always end up heading to Greenstar.

Why? Because this juicer is simply the most well made, the strongest, and the best designed masticating juicer in the world.

That does come with a price, but again, if you’re going to be using this juicer every single day for years, it’s a small price to pay.

Let’s look at some features:

Double Augers with Ceramic design

No BPA

Features Include: Juice Leafy Greens and Hard Vegetables but also attachments to process frozen fruit into sorbet, baby food, but butter, raw food entrees, and everything under the sun.

This can do much more than simply juice.

It also  has a pressure adjustment device. This allows you to control the pressure on the juicing.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Superior Juicing Design
  • Twin Juicing Augers
  • Non-Plastic Design
  • Strongest Built of all Juicers
  • Closest to Professional Model
  • Easy to Operate
  • Most Versatile Juicer Available
Cons
  • Expensive

Middle Tier Carrot and Beetroot Juicer Machine Choices

These juicers are all capable of juicing carrot and beetroot. I placed them in the mid-tier because of their price point. Some of them might not be great at making raw nut butter, or juicing leafy greens, but all of the can juice carrots and beets.

Omega H3000

This is Omega’s most affordable juicer. It’s one that is getting a lot of positive attention. Especially since it is priced very affordably.

The main selling points of the Omega juicer is that is can handle hard vegetables and leafy greens and it is a slow press juicer.

Omega juicer is the main company that I recommend when it comes to juicing. Greenstar is too pricey for most people, but Omega is in a nice price point.

This model does not have a vertical design, but that’s not something that most people need.

If you are on a tight budget, but still want a really top notch juicer, then this would be my pick.

The same basic features that you get with the higher end Omega juicer are all here.

It’s the patented Omega slow press design, which is the best slow press juicer for everyday use. And it’s also super easy to use.

I have noticed some people on Amazon that review it who have never used a juicer before. They did say that it was too hard to use. Unfortunately, these people are used to the classic push and juice juicers that are all over the place. While those juicers might be easy to use, the juice you get from them is not great quality. Heat damage and also wet pulp.

So, for the mid tier price point, I really like this model juicer.

What I would say is that this model is best if you’re only planning on juicing a couple of times a month. If you want to juice every week and certainly if you want to juice every day….please get a juicer from Tier 1.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Quiet
  • Affordable
  • Easy to Use
  • Juices Carrots and Beetroot
Cons
  • Not Great For Daily Use

AICOK Juicer

The Aicok is always going to be on the list of most popular juicers. They have the market cornered for mid priced juicers. And they do a pretty good job with them.

First, it’s a very affordable juicer. When you look at the best selling juicers, you’ll notice that a lot of them are cheap.

Usually, that’s a big red flag. And rightfully so. Cheaply made products are not going to last.

But the Aicok has a good record of making quality machines. And this model is a great pick if you’re just getting into juicing and are not ready to spend a lot of money on a Greenstar or even a vertical Omega.

So, let’s take a look at this model and what it gets right and what it gets wrong.

Highest Yield Juicer?

So, you might see that advertised online and wonder if it’s true. Well, that depends on who is doing the juicing and what they are juicing.

There’s no official company that tests juicers. When you buy something like a water filter, you can match the filters up against an offical organization such as NSF. There’s not comparable company that tests juicers.

So, each claim is basically advertising copy.

That said, I would rank Greenstar and Omega as the juicers that can extract the most juice. But you’re going to be paying a premium for that.

If you’re on a budget and you don’t mind maybe not getting every single drop of juice out of your vegetables, then this isn’t a bad choice.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • BPA FREE
  • Simple to Use
  • Cheap
  • Not Loud
Cons
  • Not Commercial Strength
  • Difficult juicing Wheatgrass and Leafy Greens

KOIOS Cold Press Juicer

The selling point on the KOIOS jucer has always been it’s price point and how quiet it is.

People who come over to cold press juicers for the better juice quality are often times amazed at how quiet the machines are. They are all much quieter than regular juicers.

But the KOIOS makes that quietness a selling point. They advertise the decibel level (60db) right there in the advertisements.

If you’ve never used a juicer, then you might not know why that’s such a big deal.

It’s a big deal because most regular juicers (non cold press juicers) are really, really loud!

And KOIOS has positioned themselves as the juicer for folks who want a more quiet model.

Not only that, but they are pretty good as far as the cold press juicing goes.

This juicer makes my mid tier list because it’s simply a really affordable and decent juicer for people on a strict budget.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Quiet
  • Juices Hard Vegetables like Carrots and Beets
  • Great Company Warranty
  • Simple to Use
  • Easy to Clean
Cons
  • Not a heavy duty juicer

Third Tier Carrot and Beetroot Juicer Machine Choices

The Dash Upright Cold Press Juicer

I like this juicer, it’s just that I would not rank it as high as the others I’ve discussed.

First, it’s not as durable and as heavy duty as the juicers in Tier 1. That means that I’d not recommend that you get this juicer if you were planning on making leafy green juice weekly and also juicing carrot and beetroot on the daily.

But, if you are a weekend juicer ? Sure, this will handle the job.

This juicer is a good cold press juicer and it will juice hard vegetables such as carrot and beetroot.

Also, it is something that has a slim profile. That means if you happen to have a tiny kitchen, this juicer will work really great.

And while it’s not a juicer that I would recommend you use to make leafy green juices, it is a juicer that works really well with frozen sorbets.

I don’t often spend a lot of time discussing frozen fruits and how they can be used in a cold press juicer, but you can use them! You can make some super healthy and delicious frozen berry sorbets.

Take the photo above. You see those strawberries in the picture? Well, I wouldn’t juice them. What I would do is to freeze the berries and then run them though the juicer to make frozen sorbet.

But, let’s get back to basics. You’re interested in carrots and beetroot, since that’s what this article is about. Well, if you’re a weekend juicer, then this will work just fine.

This juicer will take carrot and beetroot and juice it up super fast and easy.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Cheap
  • Easy to use
  • Quiet
  • Makes Sorbet too
Cons
  • Not Super Strong
  • I would not recommend using for leafy greens
  • Not a Daily Juicer
