Fresh vegetable juice is one of the best things for your body. If you’re trying to lose weight and get into shape, or if you’re just looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle, then green juice is one of the best things to add to your daily routine.
There is one area where juices can be improved: Protein.
If you’re looking to get toner and put on muscle then a green juice needs a protein boost.
This is not just for guys looking to get big biceps or pecs. It’s for gals who want to tone up and build a nice booty, tone up their arms, or want to get a tighter physique.
If you look at any of the fitness models (guys and gals) you will see that they don’t have big bulging muscles, but are instead really toned up and sexy. That’s not something you get by being slack with your diet. The best way to get that type of body is to eat clean (no sugar or refined cars) exercise and have adequate protein.
Can You Add Protein Powder To Vegetable Juices?
Yes, of course you can. Most people mix their protein powder with water or milk. Water is really the mostly popular method. Because of this lots of protein powders come in flavors. The most popular flavor is chocolate. Then variations on chocolate. Then you have vanilla. After that are all sorts of fruit flavors: berry, mango, strawberry, banana and others.
Those are all fine with water, but most of them are not great for vegetable juices.
What Flavors Work With Best With Fresh Juices:
If you are planning on adding whey protein (or vegetable protein) to a fresh juice that you make then I would choose either a unflavored whey or a berry vegetable protein.
Whey Protein For Vegetable Juice
Whey protein is considered to be the best form of protein powder. It’s made from milk. Milk can be broken down into three elements: Curds (fat) Lactose (sugar) and Whey (protein)
The reason whey is said to be the best is that it is the fastest to be absorbed into the body. So, after you’re finished exercising and lifting heavy weights, and want to take a protein that is quickly absorbed. This is one of the two main advantages of whey protein to vegetable protein.
I don’t recommend soy protein, so it won’t be covered here.
The second benefit to using a whey protein is that it dissolves very smoothly. You can add it to your juice and then mix it with a whisker…or better yet add it to a shaker and mix it up.
I would recommend getting a plain, unflavored whey. If you add this to a vegetable juice, then you will taste the vegetable juice. So, a apple and lemon green juice will have an apple and lemon flavor, not whatever whey flavoring some companies use.
I also think that the best type of whey is whey that comes from cows that are fed a grass diet. The cows should also be raised with growth hormones and all other sorts of garbage that you want to avoid.
You can get both of these at Amazon.
Here are two types of plain, grass fed, organic whey:
Naked Whey Protein
This is pure whey from a company called Naked Whey.
The Company states that is is made pure whey, grass fed cows, no growth hormone, or artificial flavors.
The milk comes from California Dairy Farms.
It is also cold processed and without bleach or acid.
NorCal Organic Whey
This is really amazing whey from Northern California Farms.
It’s free of growth hormones, comes from grass fed cows, and it also gets a humane certification.
It too is cold processed, and there is not acid or bleach.
Vegetable Protein Powder
If you’re a vegan, then this is what you are going to look for. Frankly, the whey protein mixes much easier. But, if you don’t want to use animal products (even whey from humanely raised cows) then you do have some really excellent options. Most vegetable protein comes from pea, hempseed, and a few other sources.
The only problem with many of the so-called vegan protein shakes is that they are more “health shakes”. You really want to get a powder that will give you 24-30 grams of protein per serving.
My favorite is Vega. Now, I know that I said that you should stick to a plain protein powder, but in this case the Vega Sport is actually pretty good if you choose the chocolate with tart cherry flavor. It’s going to give you 30 grams of protein–which is amazing! A drink with lemons, apples, and greens would taste ok because this chocolate has a tart cherry undertaste.
This is a great mix for juices, and especially if you end up making fruit smoothies. The tartness of the chocolate works really well with berry drinks as well.
It’s got all the protein you need. So if you want a drink for after you workout at the gym, I would suggest this one.
Unflavored Vegetable Protein Powder
If you want unflavored, then this is the one to get. It doesn’t have as much protein as Vega…but it has more than most of the other vegetable based proteins, plus is it organic and healthy.
In my review of the best juicers for beginners, I list suggest that you only choose a masticating juicer. These are the best juicers for lots of reasons, but of particular importance here is that they make the cleanest, most pulp free juice. This makes the juice that you get from them excellent for mixing with protein powder. You don’t want to use a pulpy juice when you are mixing protein powder because it won’t emulsify as smoothly.
