Best Juicer for a Small Kitchen

Small kitchens don’t need huge juicers. The best juicer for a small kitchen will be a juicer that takes into consideration the space and needs of a smaller work area.

I originally wrote this blog a few years ago, but I thought it was time to complete a whole new revamp of it.

With more people apartment sharing in 2022 then ever before, more people are going to want to learn which juicer works best for a small space.

Smaller Space = Smaller Juicer

If you live in an apartment, or a house with a tight kitchen, then you know how important it is to get good appliances. You don’t want to buy something that will take up a large amount of counter space. Ideally, you want something that has a small size but still does everything you want it to do.

I always recommend getting an auger juicer. These are the best designs. I had two centrifugal juicers, and they worked for many years, but I prefer the auger design I have used for the last 5 10 years. They extract more juice and they are much quieter.

The smallest juicers on the market are centrifugal designs. I would advise against getting one of them because the centrifugal design is not as good as an auger design. The other factor is that the centrifugal juicers are not easy to clean. You have to take them apart and then scrub the screen and the blades. This means you need a special cleaning tool. Plus it also adds time to the process.

What’s New for 2022-?

Some of the information from the original article is still revelant, some is not. What I decided to do was review the juicers on the market and make some updated reccomendations. In the last few years there have been a few juicers that have really shown promise for smaller spaces.

Years ago, it would not have been possible to have a serious juicer that fit comfortably in a small kitchen. However, luckily that is no longer the case.

The the last couple of years since this blog post was originally posted there have been a number of small juicers (all auger cold press desinged as well) introducted into the market. This was something that wasn’t even on the horizon at the time I originally wrote this blog.

Now, I will say that if you can manage the space in your kitchen, I would still advise you choose an Omega juicer or another well made brand of cold press juicer. They are going to last you a longer time and are superior in design..but they are large.

Befroe we get started, I want to point you over to some articles I’ve listed that cover just exactly how cold press juicers work and why you should buy a cold press juicer over a regular juicer.

You can review those articles if you want to know my reasoning for why I like cold press juicers.

Now, on to the small juicers that are perfectly designed for a small kitchen.

Small Juicers for Small Kitchens

The smallest juicers will take up the lest space in your kitchen.

A good option—not expensive and well made.

This is a bit more expensive, but in my opinion it is worth it. Here’s why:
Suppose you are just getting into juicing. You might make a apple and carrot juice. You might not want to add kale, parsley, wheatgrass, or any of the other dark leafy greens. But in the future you might!  It is good to have the option.

Also, auger juicers are superior to cutting blade juicers because they operate COLD and don’t create heat that can destroy the powerful enzymes in the juice.

They are also really quiet and easier to clean. There are no sharp parts. When you get a juicer that uses a stainless steel cutting disc, you have to take that out and clean it. It is sharp and little bits of the vegetables can get stuck and you will have to use a little brush to clean it.

The auger is easy to wash. You just run water over it. Nothing gets stuck.

The Omega Vertical is designed for people who don’t have the room for the lateral version. I personally use the horizontal version, but if I didn’t have the space for it I would definitely use the Vertical design.

I tend to like Omega because I have not had any problems with them and I have used them for a long time.

You also get less pulp with the Omega. They cleanly separate the pulp out from the juicer.

Pros of the Omega Vertical

Slow Speed

This juicer operates at a very low RPM.  This means that the juice won’t be subject to the damage that high heat RPM motors give like poor taste, destroyed enzymes and nutrients. A slow motor is going to give you the cleanest tasting, freshest juice.

Auger

Most Auger juices are designed to be horizontal. This is unusual in that Omega has made it vertical . It saves you space without having to give up the productivity of an auger. This design will give you the most juice. It is also important if you plan on making leafy green drinks. The texture and fiber in parsley, bok choy, kale, cabbage, spinach, can’t be juiced in a regular juicer you need an auger juicer.

Reverse Direction

They have kept this feature. I have it on my regular Omega and I love it. It is for when something gets stuck. You can reverse the direction of the auger and it frees it up. This means you don’t have to disassemble the machine.

This is a key thing to think about: are you planning on making green drinks? The reason you need to think about this is that if you do want to make vegetable drinks with leafy greens, you really want to get an Auger juicer.

Here is a demonstration of the Omega Vertical. You can see how it is assembled, how quiet it is, what the juice looks like, and the maintenance.

Here are the mai reasons I think this is the best juicer for a small kitchen:

It has a small footprint.

It doesn’t take up much room. It is also really light. It only wigs about 10lbs. Remember, this is a heavy duty machine, so that weight is very impressive.

Stainless Steel Filter and Titanium Blades

These are durable and won’t stain. You want the cutters to be hard so that they won’t chip. It’s also important that the material holds up to constant wear.

  Big Feed Tube

This is a big benefit because it decreases prep time. You won’t have to chop and dice up your vegetables into tiny pieces.

 The Downside

This is not an auger style juicer. That means it uses a cutting disc as opposed to a slow turning auger. I don’t like these style juicers for green drinks. If you are planning on making leafy green heavy drinks like kale and spinach, then I would not choose this model. It works okay for apples, carrots, cucumber, oranges and lemons. You can use spinach and kale, but it is really not optimal. I would get the auger model below.
