Can You Add Turmeric to Celery Juice

Turmeric is one of the more popular herbs in the world. It’s bright color is used to make food look colorful and more attractive.

The spice has been studied for years and is one of the more promising anti-cancer herbs. It’s also a spice that has been shown to aid in multiple other aliments ranging from high blood pressure to arthrosis.

But that’s not what this article will be about. This article is more geared towards answering the question as to if it’s a good idea to add turmeric to celery juice.

It’s a reasonable question. A lot of people have taken to juicing celery because of it’s well known benefits. Therefore it makes sense that people would want to combine something that is also well known to have a positive impact on your health.

What we will review below are some of the various questions that come about when you’re thinking of using turmeric.

Should You Juice Turmeric or add Turmeric Powder

First, let’s tackle the first problem of which type of turmeric you should be using. There are pros and cons to each.

First, let’s look at fresh turmeric.

Fresh turmeric has a number of benefits when compared to powdered turmeric. First, you can be fairly certain that it’s not contaminated. This is a major problem when it comes to powdered turmeric, especially the ones that come from over seas.

When you buy turmeric fresh, it’s not going to have the lead contamination that you sometimes find overseas.

So, that right there is a huge benefit.

Besides that benefit, there is the freshness factor. Anytime you juice something you are going to get more benefit than if you were to get a powder version.

Think about it this way, which do you think is more pungent and strong: fresh garlic or powdered garlic? Well, the same applies to turmeric.

The downside is that turmeric stains. It’s perhaps the most staining item you could juice. If you have a porous countertop, be very careful. This is more of a problem if you are using fresh turmeric as opposed to a pill form.

Now lets look at powdered turmeric.

There are some major advantages to using powdered turmeric. Namely convenience and ease of access.

Face it, fresh turmeric is not as easy to get as celery. Most people can find celery in their local supermarket, but the same can’t be said for turmeric.

I would suggest that you stick to buying organic turmeric if you’re planning on adding it to your juice on a regular basis.

The major turmeric brands are safe. The problem comes with cheap turmeric that is sold primarily in India, South East Asia and often England. As long as you stick to a good USA organic brand you’ll not have to worry.

The other benefit to using powdered turmeric is that you don’t have to worry about staining. Whereas when you juice turmeric you have liquid turmeric juice that might splash around, with powdered turmeric you can simply add it straight to the juice and mix with a spoon or in a blender bottle.

What Are The Benefits Of Turmeric?

As mentioned above, turmeric has many benefits associated with it. Much of these benefits comes from the compound called curcumin.

This has been studied extensively and shown to have significant positive effects on a number of health concerns. Let’s review some of them below with links to helpful scientific studies.

in addiotn to these linked articles, I have my own wrtite up if you are curious. I cover in depth some of the benfits of turmeric and why you might want to add it to your juice.

Will It Improve The Taste?

No, there is no real benefit to adding turmeric to juice if you’re only looking to improve the taste.

The reason to add turmeric is that it’s helpful for your health. Not that it tastes good.

It’s not that turmeric tastes bad, but it’s not really a nice taste. It’s kind of bland and a bit earthy.

What I would suggest is that you can add turmeric to your juice and then add a flavorful element such as pineapple, granny smith apples, or organic lemons.

I always advise people to add one of those three items to a fresh juice in order to make it taste better.

When adding a lemon, make sure that you choose an organic lemon so that you can juice the skin. The skin of the lemon is where all of the essential oil is, which is where the flavor is.

How Much Turmeric Should You Add To The Juice

This is a bit of a debated topic, but most expects agree that you shouldn’t go over something like 8 grams a day. That’s a lot of turmeric.

For example, when you buy turmeric in pill forms, they tend to sell them in 1gram dosage. And that’s for super high concentrated turmeric curcumin preparations.

To understand what you’re working with, remember that pure turmeric root isn’t the same as turmeric extract of pills.

So, the problem with taking too much turmeric isn’t really an issue. There are even people who make turmeric shots. I’m not a big fan of these, but it goes to show that you can take a lot of turmeric.

However, id advise that you just use a normal amount of turmeric when juicing. Something like a small chunk of ginger.

If you’re looking to juice turmeric whole, then I reccomend that you use an auger juicer. A cold press juicer is simply superior to other forms of juicers. I’ve written an entire article that covers the process of selecting a good juicer for turmeric.
